Purdue football has been wearing its signature block "P" on football helmets since at least 1933. The first version resembling the classic Purdue "P" we know and love came about almost four decades later, in 1971. Ever since, it has remained a staple of the Boilermakers' on-field look, sometimes utilizing flourishes or color changes to represent commemorative games or events.
